Inspired by . . . a change of color
I’m not ready for the stores to smell like cinnamon. Not ready to face the ghoulish specters, framed by innocent scarecrows and fairytale pumpkins.
Simply put, I’m not done savoring summer.
I’ve enjoyed her light and her warmth. Her billowing clouds and dark blue skies. Her green grass and fragrant flowers.
I’m not yet ready to change her greens, pinks, and yellows for Fall’s browns, oranges, and reds.
But change is coming.
My front porch is evidence of this truth. It’s no longer safe to sit out there in the evening or early morning.
The ruby-throats have arrived, and the space between two feeders is no longer a safe place to be!
They are the first heralds of the change coming down from the north.
The season change is subtle here in south Texas. The trees at Lost Maples don’t turn until mid-November.
That’s just fine with me.
I like to savor the seasons.
There is something to be said for enjoying the moment and being present in the now. We stand to lose the essence of life when we’re constantly looking ahead, rushing to the next season on the calendar.
There is an order to the seasons, and there is an order to our lives.
I don’t want to get caught up in the pursuit, and miss the Purpose.
Won’t you join me in savoring the last rays of summer?
Blessings,

Beautiful photos! Yes, I am hoping that summer lingers a while. But I am prepared for the reality that it might be quite cool, even frosty in northern Michigan when we make a trip there in ten days. Cold air has arrived in the north!
ReplyDeletePerfectly written, and fully understood. I however, am really looking forward to the "season of change" that lies ahead...just this one year, I am full of anticipation for the future, and anxious for all that Fall & Winter have in store for me/us. I suppose that doesn't mean I can't enjoy what's left of our last Arizona summer; But I'm having an extremely difficult time lingering in the current moment because so much of my hearts desire lies ahead. I don't feel grounded, nor have I for months now. I've prayed for a restful heart and mind, but yet I remain in my current state of mind.
ReplyDeleteYour musings test my strength & resolve, and inspire me to be still. So that will become my focus for today, and all of the tomorrows that lead to my Season of Change.
Love you, friend!
What stunning photos! I'm amazed by the clarity of the shots considering how fast these birds are! Enjoying my visit from The Weekend Brew.
ReplyDeleteMy heart's beating with yours, June. I'm just not ready to let summer go. I'll be the last one wearing flip flops in the northeast. Promise. What a glorious season this has been.
ReplyDeleteWeekend's sweetest blessings on you, on yours ...
Hugs.
Wonderful hummers! I am never quite ready for it to be Halloween time -- and this year especially I am hoping for a long early fall/late summer (whatever this between season time is called). Summer was really different for us this year, since we were on the road in Alaska the whole time. Now I want to enjoy the good Washington/Oregon weather for as long as we can before it rains.
ReplyDeleteI love the hummers. Pretty collection of images... Thank you for linking up to my critter party. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I am pondering these words tonight, "I don’t want to get caught up in the pursuit, and miss the Purpose." Blessings!
ReplyDeleteAwesome shots of the gorgeous hummingbirds!
ReplyDeleteHi!:) Lovely written piece about just enjoying and being in the moment.:)These are all fabulous shots of the beautiful hummers, and I really enjoyed this moment!:)
ReplyDeleteBest Regards from Portugal.
I like summer....but I'm ready for Autumn. At least let me put it this way, I want cooler temperatures. Down in our area, the color change of the season is like yours...Texas sub-tropics can't be beat in my opinion. And I love the onset of all the hummers arriving. We have 6 feeders out and I find now, this month at least, I'm refilling them every morning. We have about two dozen [maybe more] all day long.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, LOVE your photos...they're a favorite bird of mine. Most all are. lol
I know I'm in my personal "Hootin' Anni" blog admin, but I'm here to send you loads of thanks for linking up on my bird photo meme, The Bird D'Pot.
Beautiful photography and a message I needed to read!
ReplyDeletei've been enjoying our little buzzing brigade around the sugar water feeders, too. yup, they're getting close to fall migration, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for fall. It's so hot in Texas during the summer!

ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of Hallowe'en, but I do love the pumpkin flavoured everything that this season brings.Your hummingbird shots are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSuch a hard creature to capture, and you did splendidly!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE birds. And the photos are wonderful heart-grabbers for me. Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteBe present in the now. THIS is what I'm stopping to do. You bless. xoxo
ReplyDeleteYes, we can see looking everywhere that the season is changing, first of all watching our birds ... our robins, a few days ago, have left our woods to arrive beside the kitchen door and announce with their songs the end of the day, that's what they do from Autumn to Spring, so that's the way we've understood that our Summer was going to end ...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, every season has its wonder !!
Be blessed
Dany
