Inspired by . . . Day 16: Message of JOY
This post is part of a 31 day series on JOY

For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
That no flesh should glory in His presence. 1 Corinthians 1:26-29
Take a good look, friends, at who you were when you got called into this life. I don’t see many of “the brightest and the best” among you, not many influential, not many from high-society families. Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks and exploits and abuses, chose these “nobodies” to expose the hollow pretensions of the “somebodies”? That makes it quite clear that none of you can get by with blowing your own horn before God. Everything that we have—right thinking and right living, a clean slate and a fresh start—comes from God by way of Jesus Christ. That’s why we have the saying, “If you’re going to blow a horn, blow a trumpet for God.” (MSG)
I am not “the brightest and the best,” nor am I particularly influential. I don’t come from a high-society family. I am not mighty, or noble. I am foolish, weak, and ordinary.
A simple farm girl from Vermont.
You know, it’s funny, I almost never think of myself that way. I most often think of myself as a child of God.
That is what I have been called to - - that is my ministry.
Many of us are imitators of other people; we do Christian work because someone has asked us to do it.
We must receive our ministry, which is to testify the gospel of the grace of God,
from Jesus Christ Himself, not from other Christians.
Although we are all called to “testify the gospel of the grace of God” we have each been called to a particular ministry. This is the ministry of which Chambers speaks. Often we fall into doing ministry, but it’s not necessarily the ministry to which Jesus has called us. God can still use it, but it’s not going to produce JOY.
Joy is the result of the perfect fulfillment of what a man is created for.
My specific calling is to encourage and inspire others. This has taken many forms over the years, but one ingredient has always remained the same: the purpose has always been to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
How do I know this is my true calling?
Because when I’m doing it, I feel God’s pleasure.
His unspeakable JOY!
What’s your calling?
Blessings,

Unspeakable Joy!! That is how I know this military life was a calling from God . . . trying to explaining it leaves me speechless but what I do know is I continually look up and say, "Thank you, Lord, for this unspeakable joy!"
ReplyDeleteLove you and love this series! xoxo
Gorgeous sky shots ~ nature's beautiful palette ~ Certainly Joy without words!
ReplyDeleteartmusedog and carol (A Creative Harbor)
Agree with Carol...Joy without words in the beauty we receive around us each day through images..!
ReplyDeleteThen I admit to myself, perhaps I have never found my one true calling? What if I am doing this that *I* enjoy, that bring me joy, but not precisely what He has requested that will be my joy, and His?
I haven't heard His voice, or felt His pleasure in all the joys I've delivered/felt...Does that mean I'm deaf, or selfish? Or, that I haven't been listening, or lastly, that I just haven't found THE one & only joy He is waiting for me to discover?
Perplexing thoughts you've brought me this morning...!
One thing I have no doubt of though: Your "specific calling is to encourage and inspire others", and you do a mighty fine job of it!!
Happy Thursday, and thank you for the thoughtful message this morning. I have much silent work ahead of me today, and these words from you this morning will be what lingers in my mind as I set forth about my tasks!

Lovely post. God uses all kinds of people and usually the humble ones most!
ReplyDeleteHi June! Your line about being an imitator really struck me. I think that is what I was doing up until very recently. I'd be invited to join this and that, volunteer here and there. Now of course God can and does call me through his people, but I can honestly say I didn't pray about it much.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to be much more peaceful these days, that is my watermark. Yours is joy, but we are the same. Can't have joy without peace, or peace without joy.
I know my calling is to be a mom, wife, nana and writer. I hope I can do them well!

June, you are always such an encouragement with your beautiful pictures, and your inspiring words. I believe that you are truly fulfilling God's purpose for you.
ReplyDeleteMe? I think that writing is what God has always wanted me to do. I am so grateful for what He does in me, and through me, through the venue of blogging. I have been incredibly blessed by the people that I have met in Blog Land. It's a warm and encouraging community, and I am thankful for the opportunity to be part of it. I am praying that God will show me the *next thing* - for lately I've felt Him tapping on my shoulder about something else. Not sure what it is, but feeling His *tug*...
In it all, I want Him to shine.
GOD BLESS!
joyfully said!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, and beautiful photos.
