Jehovah-Tsidkenu

The LORD our Righteousness

the right (natural, moral or legal); also (abstractly) equity or (figuratively) prosperity: -  X even, (X that which is altogether) just (-ice), ([un-]) right (-eous) (cause, -ly, -ness).

This word, taken from the root, tsâdaq / tsaw-dak', which means to be (causatively make) right (in a moral or forensic sense): - cleanse, clear self, (be, do) just (-ice, -ify, -ify self), (be, turn to) righteous (-ness) takes us one step deeper into the depths of God’s character from our look yesterday at His justice.

In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely.

And this is the name by which He will be called:

'The LORD is our righteousness.'  Jer 23:6

Who is the Lord our righteousness?

None other than our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

This tender passage in Jeremiah is speaking of the saving grace of God, in the days when His Son did appear and save us. These are the days in which we are blessed to live, Beloved.

Yesterday we learned that God is just.  Today we see that He is holy and righteous.

God’s holiness is not simply a better version of the best we know. God is utterly and supremely untainted. His holiness stands apart - - unique and incomprehensible.

And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings,

are full of eyes all around and within,

and day and night they never cease to say,

"Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,

Who was and is and is to come!" Rev 4:8

How does a God of such incomprehensible holiness reconcile our sin and allow us into His holy presence?

Matthew Henry explains:

As God, He is Jehovah, the incommunicable name of God, denoting His eternity and self-existence. As Mediator, He is our righteousness. By making satisfaction to the justice of God for the sin of man, He has brought in an everlasting righteousness, and so made it over to us in the covenant of grace that, upon our believing consent to that covenant, it becomes ours. His being Jehovah our righteousness implies that He is so our righteousness as no creature could be. He is a sovereign, all-sufficient, eternal righteousness.

The beauty of this name, Beloved, is that we can claim it! The Lord OUR righteousness!  This is our righteousness by which we are justified before God, acquitted from guilt, and accepted into His favor.

Accepted, Beloved.

When we stand accused {by the enemy of our souls} we have nothing to plead but this, “Christ has died, and has risen again;” and we have taken Him for our Lord.

Pathway

Let this Truth overwhelm you, Beloved.

Let it overwhelm you to the point where there are no words to pray.

Only the swelling and undulating of our hearts for the

Holy Spirit to take as a sweet offering to our Lord.

Shalom,
