Jehovah-jireh

The God Who provides.

yehôvâh yir'eh
yeh-ho-vaw' yir-eh'
Jehovah will see (to it); Jehovah-Jireh, a symbolical name for Mt. Moriah: - Jehovah-jireh.

We find this name of God spoken only one time in the OT, and yet, the entire Bible either points to, or proclaims the event that this passage foreshadows:

And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from Me. And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
Gen 22:9-14

If you’re reading in a translation other than the KJV, verse 14 probably reads: So Abraham called the name of that place, "The LORD will provide"; as it is said to this day, "On the mount of the LORD it shall be provided."

So what event does this event, the alter Abraham built, and the sacrificial ram God provided on Mt. Moriah foreshadow? The ultimate provision of God.

The Cross.

This is what is so exciting about the OT! Everything points to Christ - - you can see it most clearly when you read your bible back to front.

While the Truth of the cross is that this one act saved all mankind, those who accept the sacrifice Jesus made and call upon His name will be saved, God’s care and provision for us did not end at the cross.

He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all,

how will He not also with Him graciously give us all things? Rom 8:32

The God Who provides. Just as He provided yesterday, He will also provide today and tomorrow. He grants deliverance from sin, the oil of JOY for the ashes of sorrow and eternal citizenship in His Kingdom for all those who are adopted into His household.

Don’t let the enemy’s whispered accolades fool you into thinking that the things in your life come from the sweat of your brow and the work of your hands.

Our very breath is a gift.

Acknowledging God’s provision doesn’t make you weak, it makes you wise.
