Inspired by... knowing

 

 

Pastor Freeman was talking about the Father Heart of God this Sunday, and it made me question:

 

What attributes have we assigned to God that aren't truly His?

 

God gives us earthly relationships as a point of reference – a way to relate to Him.  In scripture, God likens Himself to a Father, and us to His children. 

We all know what a good father is suppose to be.

 

Unfortunately, many of us have had experiences that taint our view of fathers.  That's why it is so important that we rely on what the word of God says about Him as our Father, rather than imposing on Him our flawed, frail, human view.

So what kind of Heavenly Father do we have?

 

• He makes us His heir. Galatians 4:7

"Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God."

• He has adopted us. Not because He had to, but for His pleasure. Ephesians 1:4-5

"just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,"

• We can have bold and confident access to Him, because He loves us. Ephesians 3:12

"in whom we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him."

• He knows us intimately. And loves us anyway. We can come to Him with our everything.

"Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust."

• He is waiting... to offer us forgiveness, compassion, all good things. Luke 15:20 

^"So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him."

• The Spirit He has given us identifies Him to us as, "Abba, Father!" . Galatians 4:6

"Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”

 

Does your heart cry out to God as, "Abba, Father!" ?

Can you accept these truths about the One who created you? Who knit you together in your mother's womb.  And, if you're already a Believer, have you accepted these truths about God's character down deep in your inner most being?

 

I guarantee your life will be changed if you do.
