Inspired by . . . Day 31: His Name, Elohim

Well, we made it! Day 31 of #write31days! Thank you for joining me. If you participated in the challenge, kudos to you! Writing every day has indeed been a challenge, but it has also been a blessing.

I think it’s appropriate to end this series with the great name of the Creator God.

Elohim

'ĕlôhı̂ym
el-o-heem'
Plural of H433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative: - angels, X exceeding, God (gods) (-dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.

The plural form of El, meaning “strong one.” He is transcendent mighty and strong. Elohim is the great name of God, displaying His supreme power, sovereignty, and faithfulness in His covenant relationship with us.

As I write this the thunder rolls and the lightning flashes overhead. Rain pelts the window and the banks of our little creek overflow.

It’s easy to see the hand of our Creator these events. Nature is a great teacher. She teaches us of our utter powerlessness. But God has power over all.

The clouds poured out water; the skies gave forth thunder; your arrows flashed on every side. The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind; your lightnings lighted up the world; the earth trembled and shook. Psa 77:17-18

Who is the Father of the rain?

"Who has cleft a channel for the torrents of rain and a way for the thunderbolt, to bring rain on a land where no man is, on the desert in which there is no man, to satisfy the waste and desolate land, and to make the ground sprout with grass? "Has the rain a father, or who has begotten the drops of dew? Job 38:25-28

If we could hear the lightening speak, what would it say?

Can you send forth lightnings, that they may go and say to you, 'Here we are'? Job 38:35

This God, Elohim, is the same God Who loves us tenderly. Who imparts to us peace that surpasses understanding. Who bestows on us His grace and mercy.

It is my deepest prayer that this series has drawn you closer to God.

I bow my knees before the Father, and pray that according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith--that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. {Eph 3:14-21}
